Nectar Collector

A Nectar Collector, called also dab straw or honey straw, is a type of smoking device that is used for vaporizing and inhaling concentrates such as oils and waxes. The Nectar Collector consists of three main components: the tip, the body, and the mouthpiece. The tip is usually made of glass, quartz or titanium and is heated using a torch flame. Once heated, the tip is dipped into the concentrate, allowing it to vaporize. The user then inhales the vapor through the mouthpiece, which is connected to the body of the device.

Nectar collector is portable and easy to use. Another advantage is its ability to offer precise and controlled dosing. By controlling the temperature and duration of heating the tip, users can tailor their experience to their desired level of vaporization.

It is important to note that using a Nectar Collector requires caution and proper handling, as the tip can become extremely hot during use. Safety measures such as using a designated stand or holding the device with heat-resistant gloves are recommended.

Nectar Collector vs. Dab Rig

Nectar Collectors and dab rigs are both tools for consuming concentrates, each with their unique pros and cons. Nectar Collectors are portable and easy to use, while dab rigs offer superior filtration, cooling effects, and greater control over hits and temperature. Users should consider their needs, preferences, and usage environment when making a choice.

Phoenix Star has introduced Nectar Collectors with water chambers (bubblers) and Glycerin Nectar Collectors for those seeking portability and simplicity while maintaining filtration and cooling. Note that Glycerin Nectar Collectors should not be frozen for too long, as this can cause the concentrate to solidify rapidly, leading to waste.

Nectar Collector vs. Oil Burner Pipe

Nectar Collectors vaporize concentrates directly at the tip through heating, typically producing cleaner vapor and purer taste. The lack of combustion process means the vapor retains the natural aroma and flavor of the concentrate, often resulting in a fresher smoking experience.

Oil burner pipes generate smoke by igniting the concentrate. The combustion process can lead to more tar and impurities, resulting in a heavier smoke that sometimes carries a "burnt" flavor. These are suitable for those who prefer a traditional smoking method.

How to Use a Nectar Collector?

Assemble the mouthpiece, body, and metal tip of the Nectar Collector. Optionally, fill the body ⅓ full with cool water. Heat the metal tip with a butane torch for 30-60 seconds, rotating the tip as you do, then wait 15-20 seconds for it to cool.

Precautions:

  • Ensure the operation is in a well-ventilated area, away from flammable items and open flames.

  • Use the outer flame of the torch for heating, as it is hotter and heats the Nectar Collector's tip more evenly and quickly.

  • Heat from the side of the tip to reduce the risk of inhaling butane.

10mm vs. 14mm Nectar Collector

These sizes typically refer to the diameter of the joint. When purchasing tips separately, ensure they match the body's size.

How to Clean a Glass Nectar Collector?

You will need high-concentration isopropyl alcohol (preferably 90% or higher), coarse sea salt as an abrasive to remove stubborn residues, cotton swabs or pipe cleaners for cleaning narrow parts, and paper towels for wiping and drying the Nectar Collector.

1. Rinse the device with warm water to remove loose particles before starting deep cleaning.

2. Soak the Nectar Collector parts in a mixture of isopropyl alcohol and coarse sea salt in a plastic bag or container. The longer the soak, the easier the cleaning.

3. After soaking, gently scrub away any remaining residue with a small cleaning brush, toothbrush, or pipe cleaner. Pay special attention to hard-to-reach areas, such as crevices or slits. Rinse each part thoroughly with warm water to remove all residues and alcohol.

4. For glass components, use a soft brush or pipe cleaner soaked in isopropyl alcohol to clean the glass body/tube, tip, and dish/bowl. Gently scrub away any residue and rinse thoroughly. Consider using a non-abrasive glass cleaner for stubborn residues to achieve a sparkling finish.
